I've learned that while GA doesn't begin for another week and a half, I'm in full mode for preparing. I've listened to webinars (video seminars on the web that you dial into) on the marriage vs civil unions issue and the one on the report of the Middle Eastern Study Committee concerning the relations between Israel and the Palestinians. Then I attended a "conversation" that Carol Mc Donald arranged in Indianapolis at the synod offices with the Jewish community for those of us commissioners who could make it and also area ministers. This gave me the opportunity to see Bob Heimach who now serves Irvington Pres in Indy plus others I have come to know through presbytery work and the Committee on Ministry.
I have also received mailings from interest groups about overtures that are being presented at GA. I have been surprised by postcards and letters sent by individual churches to all commissioners thanking us for our service and to let us know that they will be praying for us as we go through the work. Keep in mind that there are 750 commissioners so this is no small price tag for the mailings. God sustains us in so many ways.
There is also going to be a blog on the website for Presbytery of Wabash Valley. The link is at www.ourpresbytery.org.
